1971 BMW 2800CS
This 1971 BMW 2800CS is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a blue vinyl interior and is one of 183 CS coupes made for the US in the model year. The car received a repaint in 2008 at which time the interior was refurbished. The blue vinyl interior was refurbished including new carpets and a replacement headliner. The parcel shelf was also recovered and fitted with four custom speaker. The car was then awarded second place at the 2009 West Coast Summer Concours.
Originally finished in Baikal Blue, the car received a 2-stage repaint in Arctic Silver Metallic . Much of the brightwork was either re-chromed or polished. New chrome fender grilles were fitted in 2012. The repaint and bodywork helped the car earn 2nd place in the 2009 West Coast Summer Concours during Monterey Car Week. The windows are tinted, and a BMW CS Registry badge is fitted to the front grille.
The window motors received new gears and lube in 2017. The window switches were also replaced and new door locks and brakes were fitted. The air conditioning is blowing cold. Power comes from a 2.8-liter M30 straight-six, which is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox that was overhauled in 2016, and the valves and carburetors were adjusted in 2018.
The 2.8-liter M30B28V straight-six received new Weber carburetors in 2012 and was rebuilt by RS Restoration in British Columbia in 2014. The cylinders were honed and the pistons received new rings. New seals and main bearings were fitted to the crankshaft, the camshaft bearings were replaced, and the rod bearings were replaced. New cylinder head bolts were used after the head was resurfaced and received new valve guides and rockers. A new timing chain was also installed along with a new tensioner and rails. An auxiliary radiator fan and fuel pump were added the same year. In 2017, the battery was replaced and a new oil pump was installed along with the upper timing cover gasket replaced. The 4-speed manual gearbox was overhauled in 2016 with new bearings and a synchromesh. The driveshaft received a new center bearing and a later-model giubo in 2017. The pinion seal in the differential was replaced in October 2018.
The motor has approximately 1,500 miles of use since the rebuild.
